Harvest Italy 2018
Italy: After the extremely weak harvest in 2017, volume growth for the year 2018 is at an average of 20% in comparison to the previous year (about 55 million hectoliters). This year's harvest will be the second strongest in terms of volume after 1999.
Puglia, with just under 12 million hectoliters, is again ranked first in Italy's most productive regions, followed by Veneto (10.3 million hl), Emilia Romagna (7.8 million hl) and Sicily (5.8 million hl). These four regions produce about 65% of the total Italian wine.
Although many winemakers were struggling with persistent humidity and the associated fungal diseases, one can speak of a good vintage. In some weather-favored areas, even top products are expected.
