Apulia

The region Apulia ranges along the Adriatic and Ionian coast in the very south of Italy. Mainly plateaus and lowlands dominate the landscape. In the dry-hot climate with little rain grow the highest number of grape varieties in southern Italy, mainly red wines.  The peninsula Salento fulfills all climatic requirements for high quality wines. Thanks to the Adriatic and Ionian Sea, the nights are as cool as it is necessary for a quality production.
The red varieties are Aleatico, Bombino Nero, Malvasia Nera di Brindisi, Malvasia Nera di Lecce, Montepulicano, Negroamaro, Primitivo, Sangiovese, Susumaniello und Uva di Troia. The most common white grapes are Bombino Bianco, Fiano, Falanghina, Impigno, Moscato di Trani and Verdeca. On 106.000 hectares most wines of Italy are produced.
