South Tyrol

Attractive contrasts: here the bizarre and snow covered mountains, there picturesque Mediterranean hills of vineyards and fruit orchards – probably no other European region is characterized by such an attractive contrast. South of the Alps, the colorful and varied scenery of the northernmost province of Italy opens up.
Two thirds of the territory is above 1500 m and only 9 percent are below 800 m of which 4.900 hectares are vineyards.

The origin of viticulture in Trentino can be traced back to the Etruscans. Along with the neighboring province of South Tyrol this region is not only the northernmost wine region of Italy also one of the oldest in Central Europe.
The mild climate with the cooler air of the Alps allows the cultivation of white and red grape varieties on 11.000 hectares. The differences in temperature between warm days and cool nights create ideal conditions for fresh and fruity wines. The sparkling wine production in this province has a certain importance and is qualitatively among the best in Italy.
